crazy the premiere

Jack Dobinson July 3 at 2:39pm

The most anticipated bodyboarding movie of all time was ready to been screened to
the thousands in Wollongong on the 14th of May 2010. After months of lagging and procrastination the master piece had finally been completed, and JK and I were in
high spirits and had higher hopes of fame, fortune and social notoriety. In previous
weeks I had trouble locking in a venue and a date, but lucky for me the 14th was
available, perfect timing for the 15th of May, the swell of the decade (Something
like 20ft S swell 20 sec periods, offshores…). This meaning the amber liquid, crazy
the movie and partying was far from the minds of many.
The event was to kick off with a BBQ at SWS. Being the good blokes we are we throw
on cheap snags and the offer of mad hangs in store with the pros before the
screening. With total of 10-12 groms rocking up, we knew we were onto a good thing.
Plus pre sale tickets had been going gangbusters in previous weeks… with a total of
18 being sold. I am a man of routine and solid plans, so my plan was to reduce my
stress levels at the BBQ with a four pack of my favorite RTD’s Kentucky state
bourbons, and with a generous 2.8 standard drinks being offered in each can I was
starting to loosen up and ready for a crazy night.
From the success of the BBQ we make our way up the road to the venue of the premiere
‘The Master Builders Club’. We get inside and get vibed by the staff and start
setting up and knocking back more drinks. At this stage I’m waiting for the crowds
of groms to start swarming the building… early Tension premieres in Perth style, but
it was not to be. The slow trickle of unimpressed groms who looked like their
parents forced them to come along was a bit disheartening. However things started
looking up towards starting time and we managed to get a some what decent crowd of
people, but 819 people shy of the 1000 we predicted.
Having a movie named ‘Crazy the Movie’ you have a lot to look live up to, but I was
sure the least we could ask for was some mad hooting from the crowd and euphoric
cheers during the screening… didn’t happen. The whole movie played through with an
eerie silence and every time someone did yell out they would get all self conscious
because it instant drew attention to themselves. There was still hope for later in
the night though, with ‘Crazy the after party’ following on from the premiere. We
make our way to the grand with a few of the crazy faithful to continue the night.
Once again numbers were down on expected, with many wanting to catch an early night,
shit cunts! The few who did make the effort enjoyed a night of cheap drinks, bands
and pool. With shattered dreams and a thirst for utter intoxication I made sure I
would forget most of what had just happened. My last hours at the after party were
spend semi-conscious on a lounge talking to my ex girlfriend about who knows what,
crazy.
I wake the next day with mixed emotions, trying to piece together where it all went
wrong, not just the premiere but my life in general. That afternoon I took myself
and my adopted young brother Dixon down to the new Core store in Nowra for the
second stop of tour. With a crowd of 26 showing I was on top of the world. I then
once again turned to the bottle and went out in Nowra and had a genuinely good time,
with my night finishing up at Legends night club at 3am, now that is crazy.
Crazy is now selling in total of 4 stores across NSW. Here's the extended teaser:
